Painting CDX Board

Here is a quick rundown of the steps required before you begin your Painting job on CDX Plywood Board

How to Prime Plywood Using a damp cloth, wipe the cdx plywood to raise the grain of the wood to make sanding easier. Sanding with the grain, lightly sand the wood with the 120-grit sandpaper, then do the same with the 220-grit sandpaper.

Sanding helps the paint to adhere to the cdx plywood. Clean the cdx plywood with a rag that has been soaked in denatured alcohol. Priming cdx plywood is a necessary step to prevent acid or oils from leaching from the board. Using the paint roller, prime the cdx plywood.

Once the primer has dried, sand again using the 220-grit sandpaper then clean off the sanding residue with a rag that has been soaked in denatured alcohol. You may apply a second and third coat if you feel it is necessary, sanding in between each layer.

Once these steps have been followed you are ready to begin painting your CDX Plywood Project.

CDX as Temporary Wall Covering

You will need at least 1 coat primer and at least 2 coats paint CDX would be a good choice if you plan on it being a temporary wall covering. By that I mean, you want to put bead board on the walls but right now you can't afford to. So you could put up CDX, paint it and later go over it with bead board (panel adhesive and use tiny nail brads) when you have the money. Also, primed CDX wood makes a good base for wallpaper.
