CDX Plywood Installation

1. CDX Plywood should be installed directly on top of the subfloor (This is due to the face that, cdx plywood itself is not strong enough to to be the concrete subfloor)

 2. Leave a quarter inch gap around the edges of the CDX Plywood, to allow for expansion/shrinkage. This is very important

 3. Use pressure cuts to cut through the panel, with one direct cut. This ensures the board is clean around the edges, and there are no gaps in your work

 4. Ensure that Staples are flush with the CDX Plywood Material. This is to avoid any bumps or unevenness showing up in the finished work. (bubbling, unevenness, etc. ) 5. Once CDX plywood is installed, insure to clean the floor surface before applying the flooring vinyl flooring.

Protecting CDX Plywood from Water Damage (Waterproofing) Many types of waterproofing are available to protect CDX plywood. It just depends what type of protecting you are looking for. The most usual types sold in home improvement stores, like Lowes and Home Depot is the paint-on or spray-on type of waterproofing.

These typically are liquid latex substances applied to the surface of the plywood while wet. When they are left to dry, they form a plastic, protective layer. Penetrating oils and sealers are another form, and sheet plastics and interlocking membrane systems are available as well.

How to Stain CDX Plywood

Using a damp cloth, wipe the cdx plywood to raise the grain of the wood to make sanding easier. Sanding with the grain, lightly sand the wood with the 120-grit sandpaper, then do the same with the 220-grit sandpaper. Sanding helps the paint to adhere to the cdx plywood. Clean the cdx plywood with a rag that has been soaked in denatured alcohol. Staining cdx plywood is a necessary step to prevent acid or oils from leaching from the board.

Using the paint roller, prime the cdx plywood. Once the primer has dried, sand again using the 220-grit sandpaper then clean off the sanding residue with a rag that has been soaked in denatured alcohol. You may apply a second and third coat if you feel it is necessary, sanding in between each layer.
