CDX plywood is a term of plywood that has some capability when it comes to expoure to outdoor elements. The grade of the plywood is usually low, where as the C and the D indicate the quality of the plywood wood grain, and the X is a reference to the type of glue which was used to make the plywood. In this case the glue is actually a wood which is an exterior glue, however don't be fooled into thinking that the CDX plywood is good for general exterior plywood construction jobs. It is not to be used as a general purpose outdoor plywood. Just because the plywood uses exterior rated outdoor glue, does not make the product 100% exterior quality.


How is CDX Plywood Made:

Making CDX plywood is not that complex of a process however there is some skill involved on the manufactuer end, or the producer end. It is actually just made through the gluing together of sheets of wood vaneer. Each layer is glued on to the opposite grain to the one below it. The end product is actually a wooden sheet that is as durable on a wight to strenght basis as more long lasting materials such as steel. CDX Plywood is actually one of the most well known choice from contractors with regards to interior flooring projects. CDX plywod is easy to spot because its wood grade as a C or D is not the best and there are many flaws on the face of the surface, however the product is durable for most construction jobs, and will suit you for those projects where cost effectiness is an issue for you.
